The SAKAI SW884ND Guardman® asphalt roller is engineered for demanding highway paving. It uniquely features true double drum user-selectable (osc / vibe / combo) oscillation powered by a durable low-maintenance gear drive, unlike competitors’ potentially maintenance-intensive belt-driven systems. Oscillation provides continuous tangential kneading forces for efficient aggregate redistribution and uniform density. This results in a smoother surface, crucial for high-quality asphalt compaction and contributing to a lower International Roughness Index (IRI) potential on highway paving projects which leads to possible bonuses, quieter roads, improved braking, and better ride quality. Guardman is an integrated SAKAI-engineered automatic braking safety system for job site collision prevention. This advanced technology provides progressive operator warnings upon detecting a potential hazard in front of or behind the roller, with automatic braking engaging only as a last resort to prevent collisions with personnel or equipment. Additionally, the new Echelon Mode (unique to the SW884 and SW994 series asphalt rollers) enables safe and efficient close-proximity asphalt rolling in echelon patterns by allowing the trailing machine to adjust proper distance to the lead roller by using the new visual proximity meter on the dash display (or by reacting to the audible warning).
